Under the patronage of the Acting Dean of the College of Arts, Prof. Abdulmohsen Al-Tabtabaei, the Cultural Committee of the Department of Philosophy at Kuwait University organized an intellectual seminar titled: “Michel Foucault’s Book: What is Philosophy?”
The seminar was moderated by Dr. Rashid Ahmed and featured several prominent speakers, including Prof. Mohamed Ahmed El-Sayed, Prof. Zawawi Bghoura (the book’s translator), and Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Enezi.
The seminar shed light on the book “What is Philosophy?” by the French philosopher Michel Foucault, who is considered one of the most influential thinkers of the 20th century. The book explores profound philosophical themes concerning the definition of philosophy and its relationship to truth and knowledge.
Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Enezi emphasized the significance of the book as a key source for understanding contemporary philosophy, highlighting its role in enriching discourse around the relationship between philosophy and society, and philosophy and power. He also pointed out the importance of translating such a work into Arabic, especially through the efforts of Dr. Zawawi, who based his translation on multiple editions and provided a precise comparison between the original texts and translated versions.
The seminar concluded with an open discussion between the audience and the speakers, touching on various topics such as the relationship between philosophy, dialogue, knowledge, and reality, and the role of philosophy in establishing a new critical awareness within societal institutions.
