An Introductory Account
The Department of History and Archaeology in the College of Arts is an academic discipline dedicated to the study of the past and the analysis of historical events to understand the development of societies and civilizations. Established in 1966 as the Department of History, the department adopted its current name in 2021. It offers a diverse range of specializations, including Ancient, Islamic, and Modern History, as well as Archaeology and Epigraphy. The department combines rigorous theoretical instruction with practical fieldwork across its areas of study. It continues to fulfill its academic mission by preparing and graduating historians and researchers equipped with the scholarly knowledge and methodological expertise required to study, interpret, and preserve history and archaeological heritage.
