About the Office

The Office of the Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs at the College of Arts represents one of the most vital and central pillars of academic and administrative work within the College. The importance of this office stems from the distinctive nature of its responsibilities, which encompass the oversight and coordination of all academic programs, as well as ensuring the alignment of departmental curricula with the College’s educational vision. The office supervises the revision of graduation requirements, manages course equivalency for students transferring from other universities, and follows up on the progress of research projects funded by the University’s Research Sector.

Furthermore, the office is responsible for overseeing graduate programs at both the Master’s and Doctoral levels, in addition to reviewing and evaluating newly proposed academic programs in the College. These functions constitute an essential foundation for the academic system of the College and contribute directly to maintaining high standards of quality in teaching, research, and graduate studies.

Committees Under the Office of the Assistant Dean

The Office of the Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs supervises several specialized committees, each with specific mandates that are integral to the College’s academic operations:

  • Academic Affairs and Course Equivalency Committee
    This committee is entrusted with all matters related to graduation requirements, course equivalency for transferred students, and the academic review of related scientific and educational issues.
  • Scientific Research Support Committee
    This committee addresses research-related affairs within the College, discusses newly submitted research proposals, studies matters referred by the Office of the Vice President for Research, identifies research priorities for the College, and organizes the annual Scientific Poster Day.
  • Teaching Performance Development Committee
    This committee is responsible for formulating strategic plans to improve teaching methods and enhance the overall quality of instruction across the College’s departments.
  • Graduate Studies Committee (College of Arts)
    This committee oversees the defense of graduate theses and dissertations, establishes regulations to facilitate the study and examination processes, considers proposals for new graduate programs, and issues recommendations regarding program development. It also provides feedback on matters referred by the Dean of the Graduate Studies College and supervises the scheduling of courses within these programs.
  • Academic Accreditation and Self-Evaluation Committee
    This committee manages the accreditation file of the College, ensuring compliance with the standards set by the Academic Accreditation Authority. It is tasked with following up on the stages of accreditation, maintaining achieved standards, and safeguarding the College’s accreditation status.
  • Hiring Committee for Supporting Academic Positions
    This committee reviews and evaluates applications submitted by academic departments for supporting faculty positions, such as teaching and research assistants, in accordance with established criteria and regulations.
  • College Events and Activities Committee
    This committee prepares and oversees the calendar of cultural season events for the College throughout the academic year, contributing to the enrichment of academic and cultural life on campus.
