As part of the cultural season, the Department of English Language and Literature organized a lecture titled “Linguistic Corpora in Forensic Science and American Legislation” on Monday, May 5, 2025, at the Faculty of Arts – Sabah Al-Salem University Campus.

 

The discussion was moderated by Prof. Mashael Al-Hamli, and the lecture was presented by visiting scholar Prof. Stefan Griece, in the presence of the cultural committee chairperson, Dr. Muneera Al-Ajlan. 

 

Prof.Stefan Griece delivered an insightful lecture on the role of linguistics, specifically corpusbased linguistics, in the fields of forensic science and law. Drawing from his experience as a researcher and expert witness in legal cases, he explored how linguistic evidence can help interpret legal texts, identify authors of texts, and understand common legal meanings. He highlighted the vital role language plays in judicial investigations and the interpretation of laws, emphasizing the profound impact of the interaction between language and law.
