The Center for Historical Studies inaugurated its fourth international conference under the title: “Social Life in the Abbasid Era: Approaches and Analytical Theories.”

Dr. Khaled Al-Batani, Head of the Center for Historical Studies at the College of Arts, Kuwait University, inaugurated the center’s fourth international conference under the title: “Social Life in the Abbasid Era: Approaches and Analytical Theories.” 

The event was held at the Kuwait University Conference Center on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 15–16, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, with the participation of a distinguished group of academics and researchers from within and outside the State of Kuwait. 

 

The conference discusses several themes, including minorities in the Abbasid era and social life from the perspective of literature and poetry during that period. It also highlights the status of women and the role of charitable endowments in social life during the Abbasid era. 

 

The conference aims to reach analytical and theoretical approaches to define the different patterns that prevailed in social life and to present historical conceptions of the development of social life in the Abbasid period. Through the scientific papers presented, the conference also seeks to shed light on individuals as historical components and agents during that time.

From the Department of History at the College of Arts, Kuwait University – Dr. Bader Al-Rashidi, Dr. Mariam Al-Kandari, Dr. Nayef Al-Shamroukh, and Dr. Sand Abdel Fattah. 

From the American University – Dr. Mohammed Al-Sadani. 

From Jordan – Dr. Bayan Amro. 

From Algeria – Dr. Fatima Belhouari.

From Lebanon – Dr. Iradah Al-Khayyat.

From the Department of Arabic Language at Kuwait University – Dr. Amna Al-Shammari. 

Ahmed Al-Sumait, an independent researcher from Kuwait. 

And Dr. Mahmoud Ibrahim from Beni Suef University in Egypt.
