The Cultural Committee of the Department of Arabic Language and Literature held a lecture titled “Informative Elements in the Poetry of Ibn Zaydun”, attended by the committee’s coordinator, Prof.Nuriya Al-Roumi. The lecture was presented by Dr. Abdullah Al-Sarhan and moderated by Dr. Ahmad Al-Faraj on Monday, April 14, 2025, at the South Theater of the College of Arts, with the numbers of faculty members and students.

Dr. Abdullah Al-Sarhan discussed the integration of literary criticism with linguistic approaches, citing Ibn Zaydun’s poem “Ma ‘Ala Dhani Baso” as an example. He explained that it is a text composed of 24 simple and non-complex verses, yet it evokes strong emotions in the listener.

He noted that while a poetry enthusiast might classify the poem as beautiful and possessing a refined rhyme scheme, a specialist must explain their opinion based on specific, well-studied research criteria. He added that Ibn Zaydun skillfully employed informative elements at a very high level, while also maintaining a noticeably stable syntactic structure.
