The Cultural Committee of the Department of Arabic Language and Literature held a lecture titled “Storytelling Experiences”, attended by the committee’s coordinator, Prof. Nouria AlRoumi. The event hosted two prominent literary figures: Dr. Suleiman Al-Shatti and Dr. Laila Al-Othman and was moderated by Dr. Iman Al-Sharhan. It took place on Monday, April 7, 2025, at the South Theater of the College of Arts, with several of faculty members and students.

During the lecture, the storytelling experiences that marked the history of Kuwaiti literature by Dr. Suleiman Al-Shatti and Laila Al-Othman were presented. These experiences were documented through various platforms such as Al-Ra’ed magazine, Al-Arabi, and local radio.

The two guests agreed that the pioneering generation’s experience is unique, having lived through completely different eras from the era of the large radio to the age of social media and digital publishing which enriched their literary journey.

Dr. Laila Al-Othman also spoke about her beginnings in writing across all forms of art, mentioning that she found harmony in novel writing, supported by her family and school. This support played a role in shaping her literary identity, as her interests evolved alongside her maturity as a novelist, eventually leading her to adopt many causes, most notably women’s issues.
