The Cultural Committee in the Department of French Language and Cultures organized a workshop on the challenges of French phonetics. As part of the activities for the cultural season, the workshop was presented by Dr. Rasha AlKhamisi on Wednesday, April 23, 2025.

Dr. Rasha Al-Khamisi mentioned that the workshop addresses the specific pronunciation difficulties faced by learners of the French language, particularly regarding vowels. The workshop suggests steps to overcome these challenges, such as training the ear to listen through exercises known as discrimination exercises. This includes listening, reading aloud, imitation, repetition, and recording. It is also essential to study pronunciation rules and learn the International Phonetic Alphabet, which contains 36 sounds relevant to the French language. All these exercises will help identify difficult sounds and work on them in a targeted and precise manner.
