Language Center

Overview 

The Language center was established in 1973 as an English Language Teaching Unit.  Since 1975, The Language Center began introducing more languages such as French, Arabic Language for Foreigners, Spanish, and other languages as well. The various units under the umbrella of the Language Center offer credited language courses in all of colleges of Kuwait University.

In 11/10/20211 a decree was issued by the President of Kuwait University president to affiliate the Language Center with the Faculty of Arts and assigning a Director of the Language Center to manage the affairs of the various units under its umbrella. Dr. Lamees Ahmad Al-Bustan currently holds the position of Acting Director at the Language Center.

Vision

The Language Center is distinguished in what it offers, to be the nucleus of the College of Arts by offering different language teaching programs.

Message

  1. Achieving a high level in teaching language courses.
  2. Developing teachers’ capabilities and qualifying them to contribute to the development of language teaching and learning programs.
  3. Enabling the students to use the language in conversation and writing and to be able to contribute to his/her own development and the development of his/her community.

General objectives of the center

  1. Supervising Arabic and foreign language courses and developing the teaching staff in the center. The center can cooperate with the state ministries and their various bodies by providing consultations and holding specialized language courses. The center looks forward to exchanging experiences with similar centers in Arab and foreign universities by inviting experts in language teaching to provide in-depth courses as visiting professors.
  2. Preparing students who are able to use the language correctly and contribute to his/her own development and the development of society.
  3. Developing the analytical and linguistic thinking skills of teachers and students.
  4. Popularizing the culture of learning Arabic.
  5. Utilizing modern learning techniques in classrooms.
  6. Strengthening a student’s pride in his mother tongue along with appreciation of other languages in the development of human knowledge.
  7. Striving for academic accreditation for all language programs.
  8. Striving to increase the number of students benefiting Arabic language scholarships.
