The Department of French Language and its Cultures organized the annual Francophonie Day under the theme “For the Planet”

Under the patronage of the Acting Dean of the College of Arts at Kuwait University, Prof. Abdulmohsen Al-Tabtabaei, the Department of French Language and its Cultures organized the annual Francophonie Day under the theme “For the Planet”, on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at Sabah Al-Salem University City. The event aimed to highlight Kuwait University’s role represented by the French Department in developing ambitious academic partnerships and enhancing communication with higher education institutions in France.


 

The event was attended by the Assistant Dean for Planning, Consultation, and Training at the College of Arts, Prof. Abdullah Al-Jassmi, the French Ambassador of Kuwait, Mr. Olivier Joffrin, the Ambassador of the Republic of Tunisia, Mr. Mohamed Karim Boudali, a representative from the Senegalese Embassy, as well as representatives from the French Institute in Kuwait, several college leaders, department heads, and faculty members of the French Department.


 

In his speech, the Head of the Department of French Language and its Cultures at the College of Arts, Prof. Essam El-Safti, emphasized that the department is dedicated to promoting the rich French language through modern teaching methods, establishing various strategic partnerships, and spreading a diverse and vibrant culture. He added, “Today’s celebration is not just a linguistic event in a passing language, it is a living tribute to our shared language. Francophonie is not limited to a geographic area or cultural heritage; it is an intellectual community and a future-oriented vision. The French language is a vital tool to convey this vision, thanks to its modernity, adaptability, and alignment with the dynamics of globalization.” He also expressed his gratitude to the College of Arts for its unwavering support and commitment to the department by providing an ideal learning environment that nurtures student talent and promotes cultural dialogue.
