The Department of English Language and Literature organized a lecture titled “Competency-Based Assessment: A Practical Application for Acquiring English at the University Foundation Stage,” presented by Ms. Farah Al-Yaqout, on Wednesday, February 19, 2025. 

In this lecture, Ms. Farah Al-Yaqout presented practical applications of competency-based assessments (CBA), A1-B2 CBA, in acquiring the English language. She provided three examples for students at the foundation level at the Kuwait Technical College, which implements practical teaching methods. She also discussed the principles, focusing on how instructors can assess students’ linguistic competence through tasks, projects, and potential advice that can be used when evaluating students at this level.

 At the end of the lecture, Ms. Farah emphasized the design of student centered assessments that are culturally relevant to the Kuwaiti context.
